Email or call John Kerezy, or 216-987-5040, for more details about GIFT.

The Great Ideas For Teachers (GIFT) Program was established in 2000 by the Community College Journalism Association (CCJA) and the Small Programs Interest Group (SPIG) for the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC) Annual Conference to recognize excellent standards in teaching journalism and mass communication courses and to provide colleagues with fresh ideas for creating or updating their lessons.

The Newspaper and Scholastic Journalism divisions have joined CCJA and SPIG in 2002 to expand the program. In 2012, SPIG and Scholastic Journalism are co-sponsors of GIFT along with CCJA.

A panel of judges from sponsoring AEJMC groups and divisions selects GIFTs submitted by journalism and mass communication educators from all over the world for inclusion in a special journal, for recognition on the GIFT Web site and for display at a poster session at the convention. One grand prize winner is awarded a $100 ($25 each from the four GIFT sponsors) check and is presented a certificate.

In keeping with the gift theme, door prizes are given at the Conference to attract educators and guests and keep the poster session festive.

On or about February 1, AEJMC will issue a call for GIFT entries, and we will begin accepting GIFT submissions

April 1 is a uniform deadline for GIFT submissions . In April and May, judging of GIFT submissions takes place, and top papers/ideas chosen. Around May 15, the GIFT committee will sent notification to GIFT finalists. All GIFT finalists get to make poster and handout presentations in Chicago on August 9, 2012, at the centennial meeting of AEJMC.
